Future of nuBuilder ?

Postby ARWEN » Fri Feb 01, 2019 2:46 pm

Guys, I'm really worried, because:

I really love nuBuilder and I hope I'm just dreaming...

- There's not much support recently, nuStaff is not answering posts, all moderators have abandoned the forums: fike, massiws, toms...
It is very dangerous to rely on software if you don't know what the future looks like and the developers don't communicate. Communication is the key!

- The software has been on the market for like 10 years and still, apart from the developer's site, there is virtually no information on the Internet about it (like reviews, resources, recommendations, discussions). This is strange since nuBuilder is a very powerful software with which you can develop great projects!

- Website contains outdated information (e.g. references to Github..)

- Not seen any wiki updates either (e.g. everywhere references to Github..),and incorrect or outdated information there.

- No Updates @ Youtube (like the videos!), Twitter, Facebook channel

- Wikipedia article has been deleted

- No new relevant blog entries

- The move from Github to Sourceforge is questionable - Update & testing process has become very complicated

ARWEN,

We are 2 people with VERY limited resources (you have noooo idea how limited) and we get no support from anyone else.

We give nuBuilder away for free and most things we have done recently have been to reduce costs.

It is what we have had to do

Sorry, but without any financial resources, we can't do any more than we are now.

I could do a lot of things if I had some money - Homer Simpson.

Besides donation, any other ways we can help?

Donations are only helpful if there are a lot of them.

The only way this will change is if others help spread the word.

Spreading the word needs to come from users blogging about nuBuilder and with positive reviews in places like Wordpress, Sourceforge and Alernativeto.net and not from us beating our own chests.

The main reason our Wikipedia site was taken down (we didn't do it) is because there were not enough references to other articles.

These things would be a big help.

Thanks for asking.

HERE is another way that would really help the nuBuilder community...

If users have built any nuBuilder apps that they are happy to share, we will put them on our download page - https://www.nubuilder.com/downloads under Sample Applications (with a reference to the creator) so that others can get started easier and learn tips from those who have had more experience with nuBuilder.

Thanks for telling us what we need to do.
I'll be sure and leave a review on wordpress in the upcoming days.
If you can think of any other places we need to mention this, let us know.

I come across quite a few tools where the users says - but what about the future?

The future is unknowable but nubuilder is built on mysql and that is going nowhere. A tool is useful if it adds value. Know how to get your information in and out of My SQL quickly and cleanly and know that there are other tools out there that you can hook up to My SQL as well.

When you get to programming all frameworks and platforms may be temporary.

eg
Access Web Apps
Silverlight

The promise of digital is immortality in theory you should be able to build a VM these days with all that is required and run it for the rest of your days.

I am still using Access 2003 and it hooks up to SQL Azure just fine and can also connect to My SQL Oracle and Postgres

:D

God knows why people don't take the time to promote a bit - I have given up on why people don't do simple things that help both themselves and others out.

nuBuilder: Another Monkey Trap?

The benefits of open source is tremendous and has gained huge popularity in the field of IT in recent years. This is mainly because the advantages of open-source software is that it’s free to use – its greatest advantage.

Open source is not dependent on the company or author that originally created it. Even if the company fails, the code continues to exist and be developed by its users. Also, it uses open standards accessible to everyone; thus, it does not have the problem of incompatible formats that exist in proprietary software.

However, the key advantage of commercial software is the service & support. Commercial vendors offer ongoing support and this is a major thing if you don’t possess technical skills. Open-source software doesn’t always possess (a lot of) user manuals and access to experts who are familiar with the software. Although you can seek help in relevant communities for free, the support comes at a time price and no one is obliged to help. If you’re having an urgent issue, proprietary software, backed by top-tier, support might be a better choice

If an open source project is small, there's also a danger that the person behind it may lose interest, has not time in working further on the software or just move on to another project.
